Seventh generation consoles and the Wii U versions of Just Dance 4 to Just Dance 2015 and the Wii U and Nintendo Switch versions of Just Dance 2019 are limited to four players. The game can be played by up to six players at once on eighth and ninth generation consoles, as well as Steam and Stadia. Depending on the game and system it is played on, the game can be played with either motion controllers or camera devices (such as the Wii Remote and Kinect), or using an app downloaded on a smart device. Players are given ranks based on how well they do. Additionally, there are gold moves in which players must strike a pose in order to earn bonus points. During each song, players mirror a dance performed by actors on the screen, following moves that appear on the screen, and are awarded for their accuracy.

On an unknown date, a Just Dance TV feature was added and the option to log onto oneвЂ™s Ubisoft account was added for said version of the app, as well as re-enabling the option to edit the player's Dancer Card outside of the game.This is due to the shutdown announcement of the online servers for Just Dance 2015 on November 19, 2018.In the Just Dance 2019 version (Version 5.0.0) of the app, compatibility with Just Dance 2015В and the ability to edit the playerвЂ™s Dancer Card outside of the game was removed.In the Just Dance 2018 version (Version 4.0.1) of the app, the photo booth option was removed.The starbar is also removed during gameplay. On the coach selection screen, it shows a warning that no phones are connected and scoring is not possible.However, there is an option to connect the phone to the game. When that option is selected, players will not be able to score. The game can be played without the app.

This app is required for PC players in Just Dance 2017, as well as Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 players in Just Dance 2021 and onward.It was later being removed in the 2018 version (Version 4.0.1) due to the new Ubisoft logo revealed in the UbiBlog on May 31st, 2017. On Just Dance 2015, an update for the game is required in order for the app to work for the game.

The update just adds support for the Wii U, PC, and Nintendo Switch consoles for later Just Dance games.

As mentioned before, this app was an update for the Just Dance 2015 Motion Controller app, as it works with Just Dance 2015 as well, but only on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, just like the Just Dance 2015 Motion Controller app.
